On my quest to reduce my use of plastic, especially single-use plastic, I found this product right in my neighborhood. I came across Priscilla, owner, and beekeeper, at yoga. She was gifting these wax-covered wraps to the owner-teacher-yogi. I inquired about these and found out that she was the maker of these gems and had them in stock.
These wraps are useful and cute and they smell nice.
You can order these online at Madebybees.ca
So long plastic wrap!
Ah women… They are a special breed. This mother, sister, wife, and friend is such a remarkable human being. I never want to get too personal so I do not reveal too much of my clients’ personal lives. However, I can assure you that the world is a much better place because F. and S. are in it.
Beauty runs deeper than the thickness of the human skin. This is what you is visible in these images: an inner beauty that shines through in these portraits.
Based on the phone consultation we had, F. brought a variety of top of various colors, necklines and textures. We tried different colors and played with different necklines until we found what was most flattering and photogenic on photographs. The deep royal and emerald blues looked great on F. You see, this woman is from Cape Breton and the sea is part of her DNA. Not surprisingly, these colors, reminiscent of the ocean, looked amazing on her. Also, notice the neckline on the royal blue top. Take note: cowl necks are a must in your wardrobe ladies.
S. came in with simple and understated tops that also worked well in the photos. I hope we did justice to her perfect creamy skin and her sublime eyebrows.

When I hear comments like: «Today’s youth are lazy.», «In my days, we were better at (fill in the blank)», etc. I think to myself that we are dead wrong about young adults. There are so many creative, eager, good-natured, whole-hearted and smart young people out there.
With high school graduation and prom season around the corner, this next post is a reminder that thousands of young men and women are about to start a new and significant chapter in their life. We love to photograph them in our studio to immortalize them at this very important stage in their life.
Here is one such example. Angelique is an outstanding young woman. I have the pleasure of working with her in the studio. I wanted to capture her youth forever.
She willingly agreed to spend a few hours with me, at the studio. We tried out the new gear.
Indeed, Christmas came early as we invested in some «light-in-a-can» portrait studio photography equipment. There is only so much daylight November and December can bring.
Our portraits celebrate people of any age. Young, middle-aged and mature women sit in front of our camera. Let’s celebrate you; because every stage of life is worth celebrating.

Meet Andrea and Annie, the models in this beautiful and intimate portrait photo shoot.
This is Andrea’s testimonial:
“ Isabelle in her thoughtful and skilled manner has marked a transitional age/stage for Annie and I. Annie is completing high school and is heading to university in September.
I am growing my businesses in preparation for retirement from soon to be 25 yrs. of teaching. We very much appreciated Isabelle’s organization, professionalism and attention to detail in creating a safe atmosphere for the photo shoot and the exciting reveal process. As a painter, I am fascinated by how she masterfully paints her subjects in their most beautiful and authentic light! Annie’s casting shot captured her fresh look and was ideal for the intended purpose of her performance audition in Toronto.
Isabelle suggested a business shot for me which I will use in various multi-media forums including Facebook promoting my local businesses – Buells Creek Furnishings (hand-painted custom furnishings) & Walk More, Bark Less (pet nanny and dog walking).
I treasure the images which caught my girl and me in our groove together. Such fun working with you, thank you again.”

Remember this woman?
Natasha was the face of a few of Abelle’s promotional pieces back in 2015 and 2016.
Well, look at her now!
It takes courage to go gray and for Natasha, it was a journey. Courage is this woman’s middle name.
After choosing to live a chemical-free life, it became clear that she would eventually have to make that decision. I cannot believe how stunning she looks. Look at the other glamorous portraits of her taken a few years ago.
Here is to celebrating the different stages of life! What stage do you wish to celebrate?

This next photo shoot, actually photo shoots, is of a gorgeous family of 5. Made up of three little boys who are full of beans, a mom and a dad, a dog and chickens. There is never a dull moment in this household.
Only a few weeks after delivering baby number 3, she was out on the ski hill with the two oldest boys.
Then came boy number 3: Grayson.
When I met them this Fall, they were just finishing some major home renovations including an entire addition. Where they find the energy, I don’t know. All I know is that this family is GORGEOUS, friendly, funny and authentic. I love them to bits.
People often ask What do you do? “I am a photographer’ isn’t enough“. This is what I do: I photograph connections and love and give families heirloom images of moments. Portraits that will stand the test of time. It is an honour and a privilege to do this for people and their families.
This November day was dark and gloomy but the studio was all lit up by this woman’s spirit and energy. She has amazing skin, a charming smile and a contagious laugh.
We sorted through her suitcase and pulled together a number of different outfits to create a custom magazine-style photo shoot for her. One that included some business attire and other outfits for beautiful personal portraits. These images are precious for Terrie. Over time, they will be even more significant for her two children.
For this woman, purple is more than a favorite colour. It is a reminder of how strong women, like her, are.
Lauren and I are blessed to have spent an unforgettable afternoon at the studio getting to know this wonderful woman warrior and mother of two.

As a side note, this woman is also a trend setter. As a matter of fact, the 2018 Pantone color of the year is Ultra Violet, 18-3838. Who knew?
This woman is a force to be reckoned with. I am grateful our paths crossed and that I was able to have her come in for a photo shoot. To say we had fun is an understatement. We would do this every week!
During our pre-shoot consultation, she warned me a number of times that I would be challenged with a strange smile that was way too large and squinty eyes. Well, I looked for those traits and they didn’t show up. All I could see was inner beauty, grace and light. What about you? What do you see?
She booked this photo shoot for many personal reasons. However, professionally these images are significant. She is redesigning her life as a mother, a wife, a friend, a business professional and a woman.
This session revealed a number of things: that she is a woman and not the tomboy she may be perceived to be; that she is not only smart but attractive; that she has more strengths than she thought and, that the camera loves her.
Stay tuned. This soulful professional is about to take on the world.

The Mother’s Day Promotion held last spring led to this family portrait photo shoot. During the pre-shoot phone consultation, it was made clear that the goal behind this studio photo session was “to capture the children at their age.“ In essence, isn’t this what photography does: stop time?
This session was really four mini-sessions built into one, combining individual magazine-style photos with family portraits. This is certainly possible and makes for a busy fun-filled day.
This session also coincided with another milestone for this family: their nest will start emptying out as the eldest daughter is leaving for university once school starts again this Fall.
If you wish to combine different types of photo shoots, make sure you pack a variety of outfits and that you eat your “Wheaties“ in the morning. Energy helps you stay alert for the duration of the photography session. I will guide you and help you plan for this ahead of time.
So, when was the last time you and your family were photographed professionally?
